Great Smoky Mountain National Park
Great Smoky Mountain National Park offers a residency volunteer program in Gatlinburg, Tennessee every year. In 2017 Laura was accepted as artist in residence and spent October and November traveling through the Appalachian Mountains collecting ochre and painting en plein air. The residency program also offers a collaboration with Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. At the end of her residency she created an Appalachian Pigment Library which she donated to the Science Center at GSMNP.
The Platte Clove Cabin
Tucked away in Platte Clove Canyon in the Catskill Mountains is an enchanting cottage previously inhabited by Jack London. The Catskill Center, a conservation organization run out of Arkville, NY, provides a unique artist residency program every year from April to October. Laura was able to do her residency in late August/early September of 2016.
